Terms and Conditions – Carbarn Ireland

1. Introduction

These Terms and Conditions ("Agreement") govern the relationship between you (the "Purchaser") and Carbarn LLC ("Carbarn", "we", "us" or "our"), a Japan-registered company, in connection with the purchase and export of used vehicles from Japan to Ireland.

By using this website and purchasing a vehicle through us, you agree to these terms. The contract of sale is made between the Purchaser and Carbarn LLC (Japan).

2. Nature of Business

  • Carbarn LLC is a Japan-based company engaged in the export of used vehicles, including to Ireland.
  • Carbarn owns the vehicles it lists, and vehicle transactions, ownership transfer and export documentation originate from Japan.
  • Carbarn's responsibility concludes on handover of the vehicle to the shipping line at the port of export in Japan.
  • Carbarn does not act as a customs clearing agent in Ireland and does not carry out registration with the National Car Testing Service on the Purchaser's behalf.

3. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

  • This Agreement is governed by the laws of Japan.
  • Where the Purchaser is a consumer resident in Ireland, this choice of law does not remove the protection of mandatory Irish and European Union consumer law, and the Purchaser may bring proceedings in the courts of Ireland.

4. Vehicle Condition and Inspection

  • Ireland requires no Japan-side pre-shipment inspection, so no inspection certificate from a Japanese inspection body is issued for this route.
  • Every listing carries photographs, the Carbarn inspection comments, the full inspection report and the auction grade.
  • Vehicles are used and are sold in the condition described in the inspection report and auction sheet.
  • Recorded odometer readings are taken from the auction sheet and export documentation and are reported as recorded.

5. Shipping and Delivery

  • Vehicles are shipped by RoRo (Roll-on/Roll-off) from Japan.
  • Destination ports are Dublin and Cork.
  • Ocean transit is 28–45 days, on a monthly sailing schedule operated by Höegh Autoliners, and depends on vessel scheduling.
  • Once the vehicle is handed to the shipping line, Carbarn does not control vessel delays, port charges or terminal handling.

6. Payment Terms

  • We accept bank transfer and credit or debit card.
  • Payment details are issued only on an official Carbarn proforma invoice after the quote is confirmed.
  • Bank charges, intermediary fees and exchange costs are the responsibility of the Purchaser.
  • Shipment arrangements begin once the payment terms stated on the proforma invoice have been met.

7. Customs Clearance and Registration in Ireland

  • The Purchaser is responsible for customs clearance, duty, VAT, Vehicle Registration Tax and registration in Ireland, and for the costs of each.
  • Duty and tax are assessed by Revenue. Registration is completed through the National Car Testing Service, which registers imported vehicles on behalf of Revenue.
  • The vehicle must be presented for its NCTS inspection within seven days of arriving in the State.
  • The Purchaser is responsible for holding the customs registrations needed to lodge an import declaration in Ireland.

  • Registration Certificate (Country of Origin)
  • Export Certificate
  • Original Invoice
  • Bill of Lading
  • Condition Report

8. Cancellation and Consumer Rights

  • Where the Purchaser is a consumer contracting at a distance, the cancellation rights conferred by Irish consumer law apply and are not restricted by this Agreement.
  • Outside those statutory rights, an order may be cancelled before the vehicle is handed to the shipping line, subject to costs already incurred.
  • Once the vehicle has been handed to the shipping line, cancellation is subject to the statutory position and to the costs of shipment and return.

9. Disclaimer and Limitation of Liability

  • Carbarn is not liable for port delays, demurrage, terminal handling charges, or delays in customs clearance or registration in Ireland.
  • Carbarn is not liable for loss or damage occurring after the vehicle is handed to the shipping line, which is covered by the carriage and insurance arrangements in place.
  • Nothing in this Agreement limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability to consumers under mandatory Irish and European Union consumer law.

10. Data Protection

  • We collect only the customer data needed for order processing and export compliance.
  • Customer information is not sold, and is shared only as set out in our Privacy Policy.
